APPALACHIA
WHY WE GO
The Appalachian region of the United States is an amazing place. It is an area rich in resources and beautiful landscapes. The people of Appalachia are a very humble yet proud people all at the same time. Proud of their heritage and their lifestyle, they are very hard working, close knit, family first oriented, yet extremely hospitable group of people. The communities we serve in include West Virginia, Southeast Ohio and Eastern Kentucky.

The Appalachian people not only have to battle the area and the natural elements of their location, their hardship has been perpetuated by the huge loss of jobs due to the decline of the mining, steel and manufacturing. The shortage of gainful employment has lead to severe drug and alcohol addiction issues in many communities and as a result, poverty has taken its toll. It has fractured the heart of many and hopelessness is all too common a term used by many.
WHAT WE DO
We will work with your group to identify the best ways you'll be able to utilize your teams talents in meaningful ways. We work with numerous communities and local charities that provide services for disadvantaged adults, children and families, homeless and the elderly. We also serve at local food banks, distribution centers and cafes that serve meals for those in need. Construction projects large and small, skilled and unskilled are in need of volunteers year round. Typically serving teams split the day and serve in two different locations each day providing a variety of different ways to help.
WHAT WE DO FOR FOOD AND FUN
With the exception of departure and arrival hours, three meals will be provided each day by a local cook with restaurant experience. Typical american fare rules the day, but there are always a few surprises that incorporate local ingredients and dishes.
Typically a full day and one afternoon and evening is reserved for outdoor fun and exploration. There's all sorts of things your group can do. Kayaking, caves, white water rafting, hiking, museums, tours and more!
